"Dojo Kun" refers to the five fundamental rules of karate, which are recited at the end of training to remind one of the discipline's ethical principles. Literally, "Dojo Kun" means "rules of the place where the Way is followed." These rules, often translated as "the precepts of the place of the Way," are a code of conduct that guides practitioners both in the dojo and in everyday life.

Here are the five rules of Dojo Kun, with their translations and meanings:

1. Jinkaku Kansei ni Tsutomuro Koto:

Seek to perfect character. This rule emphasizes the importance of personal and moral development through karate practice.

2. Makoto no Michi o Mamoru Koto:

Follow the path of sincerity. Sincerity is seen as a fundamental value, both in actions and intentions.

3. Doryoku no Seishin or Yashinau Koto:

Tirelessly strengthen the spirit. This rule encourages perseverance, determination, and spiritual cultivation in karate.

4. Reigi or Omonzuru Koto:

Observe impeccable behavior. Respect, both toward others and toward oneself, is a cornerstone of the Dojo Kun and the practice of karate.

5. Kekki no Yu or Imashimuru Koto:

Refrain from violence and acquire self-control. This rule emphasizes the importance of controlling one's emotions and avoiding the use of violence, whether physical or verbal.

The Dojo Kun is not just a set of rules, but represents a code of ethics that guides karate practitioners on their path to personal and spiritual growth.
